Limerick, a 1980 Monk 36 Trawler

Monk 36 Limerick

We bought Limerick Christmas 2015 to cruise the Pacific Northwest. She is hull number one and had been very well taken care of by her previous owners. There is always something to change and fix on an old boat (like replacing the fuel tanks) and we have an extensive log to keep track of over 40 years of stewardship back to her first owners. Check out Limerick’s Boat Book which is free for you to download and modify to work for your own boat. After we sold our sailboat, Camille, I wrote an article about what we learned from our first cruising boat and what we wanted to do differently in our next boat. After seven years, we sold Limerick in October of 2022.

TRAWLER MERCHANDISE

Do you love trawlers as much as we do?  We created a custom trawler design and partnered with a print-on-demand company to make ordering and shipping safe and easy. Below is our current selection of items. If there are any particular items you would like us to add please contact us. Two different designs are available.

BEFORE & AFTER

Who doesn’t love a good before and after? When we first moved aboard we sent our palm-tree-covered cushions to our favorite leather shop in Ensenada, Mexico and had all the cushions recovered in a soft, commercial-grade, off-white vinyl. Looks great and is super-easy to clean.

The V-berth had the same palm tree fabric but we didn’t want vinyl for a bed so went with these awesome covers. They also function as sheets and never bunch up since they are a tube that rolls over the cushion.

AB Dinghy

This custom swim step and dinghy davit is a big reason why we bought this boat! The dinghy and outboard lower on hydraulics!

Inflatable SUP (<

Hobie inflatable kayak – Can be pedal or paddled and easily stores below deck if we need to declutter the deck. We tried about five different racks to attach to our rail and are very happy with this one. We recently sold the inflatable kayak and purchased a new Hobie SUP / kayak combo – pedal, paddle, AND stand-up. It can even be pedaled in reverse! Super fast, too, because it has a flat bottom.

Our new Hobie SUP kayak combo is the most fun toy ever! We use it for snorkel excursions, fishing, sightseeing, and trips to shore. I can steer with one hand and take photos with the other. It’s much easier to beach than the dinghy. Check out some of the upgrades we made.   Hobie i9s inflatable kayak
