We’re Mike and Verena. We met after college, while working aboard a NOAA hydrographic research vessel in Alaska, collecting data to update nautical charts. We later moved to Portland, Oregon and worked for a hydrographic firm that kept us traveling all over the US and working aboard boats and ships. In 2008, we both became 100 ton licensed captains, and in 2011 we quit our jobs, bought a sailboat and went sailing in Mexico for a couple of years. We eventually made the Baja Bash back up to California, sold the boat and spent summer 2014 working and playing in Alaska. Back in the lower 48, we have been working, and traveling in our mini van. For Christmas 2015 we bought ourselves a new home/boat – this time a trawler to further explore the Pacific Northwest.
