When we launched Limerick back in mid-March we weren’t sure how the summer would go. We had hoped to be able to go to Canada but the border has been closed due to Covid. We ended up finding out that work would start much earlier than usual and we would be heading to Alaska June first. Just as the weather was starting to be really nice in Washington we got in one last ride on the paddleboard and pedal kayak.

After over two months of cruising the San Juans, it was time to haul out once again. We ended up putting Limerick into indoor storage in hopes of doing some fall cruising after getting back from Alaska. It’s a bit more expensive than our usual outdoor storage but we save on shrink-wrap.

We worked for two months on Bristol Bay in the Bering Sea. The fishermen up there really need some new charts since the area hasn’t been surveyed since the 1950s. We lived and worked aboard a 120′ ship with three small boats doing the hydrographic surveying. This chart will soon look a bit different!

The landscape of the Aleutian chain makes our temporary home look tiny.

Coming home (to the ship) from a long day of surveying.

We were always within view of Pavlov Volcano but it was a rare day without clouds. Pavlov is one of the most active in the US.

Many of us went to shore only once in over two months. But even with all the challenges, it was a really fun project with lots of laughs.

Yes, those are bear tracks on the beach we were exploring on our last day.

Little red foxes are very shy but curious.

We are currently back in the Anchorage area. Before heading back to our own boat in Washington, Mike is busy chasing fish while I relax.
